Seedly's expense tracker is gone — what Singapore users can switch to
Singapore’s best-known expense tracker stopped running at the end of 2025, and the tracking data went with it a few months later. If you are only finding out now, here is what happened and what to do next.
What shut down, and when
Seedly announced that its app would be discontinued on 31 December 2025. The community side of Seedly — the Q&A threads, reviews, posts and profiles — stayed on the website. It was the app, and with it the expense tracker, that stopped.
That distinction matters, because plenty of people still find Seedly answers in search and reasonably assume the tracker is still running. It isn't.
What happened to the data
Seedly said expense-tracking data would be permanently deleted after 31 March 2026. If you exported before then, you have your history. If you didn't, those months are gone, and no replacement app can reconstruct them.
It is worth being blunt about the lesson rather than the loss: an expense tracker holds years of your financial history in someone else's database. Before you commit to the next one, find its export button and use it once, so you know it works.
What to look for in a replacement
- It has to be built for Singapore. SGD by default, GST on receipts, local cards, and categories that match how people actually spend here — not a US app with a currency setting.
- It shouldn't need your bank login. Plenty of trackers ask you to link a bank before they do anything. That is a large amount of access to hand over for the sake of categorising a coffee.
- Capture has to be almost free of effort. The reason most trackers die in week three is the typing. Whatever you pick, the act of recording a purchase needs to take about a second.
- Line items, not just totals. A total tells you that you spent $58 at a supermarket. Line items tell you what you actually bought.
- An export you have tested. See above.
The options, honestly
Your bank's own app. Free, already installed, and accurate for that bank. The catch is that almost nobody in Singapore runs their life through one bank — the picture breaks the moment you use a second card, PayNow or cash.
A spreadsheet. Genuinely underrated, completely private, and infinitely flexible. It also relies entirely on your discipline, which is the thing that failed in the first place.
A global tracker. Mature, polished, and generally built around US or European banking. Expect currency friction, categories that don't quite fit, and bank linking as the default path.
A Singapore-built tracker. Fewer of them, closer fit. This is the category we're in, so treat what follows as disclosure rather than a recommendation: Traceipt is an expense tracker for Singapore that captures receipts as you spend — by tapping a Traceipt Pad at a participating counter, by photographing a paper receipt, or by typing an entry — and tracks by category, payment method and card. It doesn't connect to your bank.
How to move across without losing the habit
- Write down your categories first. Six to eight is plenty. Most people abandon a tracker because they built thirty.
- Start from today, not from January. Backfilling a year of history is the fastest way to quit in a week.
- Put the app where your banking app is. Same screen, same thumb.
- Give it one month before you judge it. A tracker is worthless until it has a month to compare against — which is exactly the point at which the previous one started being useful.
If you tracked with Seedly for years, the habit is the valuable thing, not the app. It transfers.
Questions people ask
Is the Seedly app still available?
No. Seedly discontinued its app on 31 December 2025. The Seedly website and community content remain online, but the expense tracker in the app is no longer running.
What happened to my Seedly expense tracking data?
Seedly said expense-tracking data would be permanently deleted after 31 March 2026. If you exported your data before that date you still have it; if you did not, the history cannot be recovered from the app.
What is the best expense tracker in Singapore now?
There is no single answer, but the ones people stick with in Singapore share four traits: they work in SGD without conversion friction, they capture spending in about a second, they record line items rather than just totals, and they do not require a bank login. Compare candidates on those four before comparing features.
Do I have to link my bank account to track expenses?
No. Bank linking is one approach, not a requirement. Receipt-based trackers record what you actually bought without any connection to your bank, which also means there are no banking credentials for the app to store.
